
DAMONGO, SAVANNAH REGION | June 1, 2025 — A heartbreaking accident on the Bole–Damongo highway has claimed the lives of a 23-year-old man, Dakurah Eyilisun, and his mother, Alice Eyilisun, plunging their community into mourning.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, May 31, near the Damongo Municipal Assembly in the Savannah Region.
According to eyewitnesses, a bus travelling from Bole to Tamale collided with a motorbike carrying the two victims who were riding along the roadside. The impact of the collision was so severe that Dakurah Eyilisun died instantly at the scene.

His mother, Alice, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the St. Anne Catholic Hospital in Damongo, where she was receiving emergency treatment. Sadly, she later passed away.

Confirming the incident to Channel One News, the Savannah Regional Police PRO, Chief Inspector Grace Odurowaa Boateng, stated that the young man was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital and the mother, despite medical efforts, also succumbed to her injuries.
The police have not yet released details on the bus driver’s condition or whether an investigation has been launched into the cause of the collision.

The tragedy has shocked residents of Damongo and surrounding communities, prompting renewed calls for increased road safety measures along the busy highway, which has seen a number of accidents in recent months.
