JUAPONG – June 3, 2025 — The Ashanti Regional Police Command has intercepted a Ford Transit Bus loaded with an unusually large amount of cash — approximately GHC1,021,700 in one cedi notes and coins — at the Juapong snap checkpoint on Tuesday at about 4:45 p.m.
According to police sources, the money was concealed in sixty-eight fertilizer bags and was being transported from Ho in the Volta Region to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The driver of the bus, identified as Edward Ansah, was arrested and is currently assisting with investigations. During initial interrogation, Ansah claimed that he had been hired by an unnamed individual in Kumasi to convey the cash from Ho.
Authorities have not yet determined the source or intended purpose of the funds, raising suspicions of possible money laundering, illicit business dealings, or tax evasion.
“The suspect is in custody assisting Police in investigations. The public will be updated on the outcome,” the police statement noted.
The operation forms part of heightened efforts by the Ghana Police Service to monitor financial irregularities and ensure transparency in the movement of large sums of cash, especially in light of recent anti-corruption drives.
This incident comes as financial authorities tighten scrutiny on unregulated transactions amid broader efforts to curb economic crimes and improve accountability.
