Minority MPs Petition IGP Over Undeclared Ablekuma North Parliamentary Results

ACCRA – June 4, 2025 — The Minority Members of Parliament have formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over what they describe as an unjustified delay in the declaration of parliamentary election results for the Ablekuma North Constituency following the 2024 General Elections.

Led by Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh Dompreh, the group marched to the Police Headquarters in Accra on Wednesday, June 4, to present their concerns. Speaking to journalists, Mr. Dompreh called on the Ghana Police Service to provide adequate security and protection to the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure the immediate release of the long-awaited results.

“The absence of a declared MP for Ablekuma North constitutes a serious violation of the constitutional right to representation guaranteed under the 1992 Constitution,” Mr. Dompreh stated.

Constitutional Crisis in the Making

The Minority expressed worry that the prolonged silence by the EC, nearly six months after the elections, undermines Ghana’s democratic processes and legitimacy of parliamentary representation. They insist the situation has deprived constituents of a voice in Parliament, denying them participation in law-making and national development.

Police Intervention Requested

While the EC has yet to issue a formal explanation for the delay, the Minority believes that interference or threats to electoral officers may be a factor, hence the request for police intervention.

They urged the IGP to act swiftly to secure the EC’s operations in Ablekuma North, allowing the Commission to complete the process and announce the rightful winner.

The Minority has vowed to pursue all constitutional and legal avenues to ensure the people of Ablekuma North are not left disenfranchised.
