President Mahama Confirms 33 Corruption Cases Against Former Officials Set for Prosecution

ACCRA – June 4, 2025 — President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed that the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice is currently preparing to prosecute 33 corruption-related cases involving former government appointees, following detailed investigations by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Team.

The President made the revelation during a meeting with the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, June 3. The AUABC is in Ghana to assess the country’s adherence to the AU Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption.

ORAL Team Uncovers Deep Corruption Trail

The ORAL Team — established by President Mahama after his 2024 re-election victory — was formed to probe allegations of corruption and illicit enrichment under the previous administration. The five-member task force is chaired by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and includes:

  • Daniel Domelevo, former Auditor-General
  • Nathaniel Kofi Boakye, retired Police Commissioner
  • Martin Kpebu, legal practitioner
  • Raymond Archer, investigative journalist

Each member of the team is widely respected for their integrity and anti-corruption advocacy.

Upon completion of its work, the team handed over evidence to the Office of the Attorney-General, triggering the current legal process.

Prosecutions to Begin Soon

President Mahama disclosed that special investigative teams have been assigned to handle each of the 33 cases, with some trials already underway.

“Some of them have found a lot of evidence of the procurement of properties with illicit wealth. With many of them, they are just at the point of beginning prosecution. Some have also started the prosecution, and others are being lined up,” he told the AU delegation.

The President emphasized that the investigations uncovered a range of corrupt practices, including procurement fraud and unlawful asset acquisition. He assured that the government remains committed to ensuring accountability and justice without fear or favor.

AU Advisory Board Engaged

Chairperson of the AU Advisory Board, Madam Seynabou Ndiaye Diakhatè, commended Ghana’s renewed anti-corruption drive and noted that periodic reviews are mandated for all signatory states under the AU Convention.

The Board’s visit includes engagements with key institutions like the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), civil society groups, and the media to share best practices and identify challenges in the fight against corruption.

The developments mark a significant step in Ghana’s anti-corruption campaign, with the Mahama administration signalling its readiness to prosecute high-profile cases and recover state assets misappropriated in recent years.
