Gov’t Announces Major Boost in Data Bundles by Telcos Effective July 1

Accra, Ghana – June 11, 2025
The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation has announced that Ghana’s leading mobile network operators — MTN, Telecel, and AT (formerly AT-Tigo) — will increase their data bundle offerings starting Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
The policy move, according to Communications Minister Sam George, is aimed at enhancing data accessibility and affordability for Ghanaians, especially as digitalisation becomes increasingly central to economic and social activities.
“Starting July 1, AT-Tigo Ghana will offer a 10% increase in all data bundles currently offered by the network. Additionally, the GHC400 bundle, which currently offers 195GB, will now offer 236GB of data,” the Minister stated at a press conference on Tuesday, June 10.
Changes Across Networks:
- AT (AT-Tigo Ghana):
- 10% increase across all bundles.
- GHC400 bundle moves from 195GB to 236GB.
- Telecel Ghana (formerly Vodafone):
- Also implementing a 10% increase across all bundles.
- The GHC400 bundle will jump from 90GB to 250GB, a 177% increase.
- MTN Ghana:
- Leading with a 15% increase across all bundles.
- The GHC399 bundle, which was previously adjusted to GHC350 for 92.88GB, will be reinstated to GHC399 offering 214GB.
Minister Sam George praised the networks for responding positively to calls from government, Parliament, and consumer advocacy groups for better data value, particularly in the face of growing demand for internet services.
“This is a win for the Ghanaian people,” he remarked, “as we work together to ensure digital inclusion and a more connected society.”
Public Reaction and Expectations
Consumer groups have widely welcomed the announcement, saying it represents a meaningful shift toward value-for-money services. Many are calling for consistent monitoring to ensure implementation and transparent communication from telcos regarding any future pricing or data structure changes.
Industry experts say the data increase could boost digital productivity, especially for small businesses, students, and content creators who depend heavily on affordable data access.
