Over 600,000 Candidates Begin BECE Today – Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu Sends Goodwill Message

Accra, Ghana – June 11, 2025
As over 603,000 students across Ghana begin the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) today, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has delivered a message of encouragement, describing the exam as a “significant milestone” in the academic lives of the candidates.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday morning, the minister extended heartfelt wishes to the 603,328 candidates sitting for the exam from June 11 to June 17, acknowledging their hard work and preparation.

“Today is a significant milestone in the academic journey of these youngsters. Learners numbering 603,328 students across the country will be sitting for the BECE from today. On behalf of the president, and on my own behalf as well as the people of Ghana, I want to wish them good luck and best wishes,” Mr. Iddrisu stated.

Stay Focused and Avoid Malpractice

Mr. Iddrisu urged the candidates to approach the exams with calmness, confidence, and integrity, warning against examination malpractice. He emphasised that success is best achieved through honest effort and self-belief.

“A heartfelt encouragement to all of them and a reminder that they should remain calm, focused, and determined, and avoid all forms of examination malpractice. They have to believe in their own ability to succeed and to do that through the utmost effort and engagement,” he advised.

Treat the BECE as a Test of Preparedness

Encouraging students to view the BECE as a normal academic test, the Education Minister reassured them that their years of preparation would pay off.

“They should just consider it as a normal test of memory. They have been studying over the years because of this day, and they only need to put their knowledge, skill, and the confidence they have acquired to the test. I wish them the best of luck,” he said.

This year’s BECE marks one of the largest cohorts in recent years, and the Ministry of Education says it remains committed to providing the necessary support to ensure a smooth and fair examination process nationwide.
