Ken Ofori-Atta Undergoes Successful Prostate Cancer Surgery in the U.S.

Rochester, Minnesota – June 17, 2025 — Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has successfully undergone robotic-assisted surgery for prostate cancer at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, according to a statement from his family.

The announcement, made by his wife, Prof. Mrs. Angela Ofori-Atta, on Monday, June 16, confirmed that the procedure — a radical prostatectomy — took place on Friday, June 13, and lasted over four hours.

“The doctors are pleased with how the procedure went and will now place him on a postoperative regime,” Prof. Ofori-Atta stated.

She described the weeks leading up to the operation as particularly taxing, emotionally and mentally, especially in light of a red alert issued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) shortly before the surgery.

“Kenneth has always been resilient. But this has been very difficult; with the OSP choosing the period just before his surgery to declare a red alert on him,” she said.

Despite the stress, she noted that the former minister is recovering steadily and remains focused on his healing journey.

“Our family is truly grateful for the support and prayers of many people and pastors,” she added.

Mr. Ofori-Atta, who served as Finance Minister from 2017 until early 2024, has maintained a relatively low profile in recent months. The news of his health condition and successful operation has drawn an outpouring of well-wishes from across the political and civic spectrum.
