NACOC Raids Drug Hotspots in Eastern Region, Arrests 14 Suspects and Shuts Down Chemical Stores

Akyem Oda, Eastern Region – June 24, 2025 — The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has conducted a major anti-drug operation in the Eastern Region, resulting in the arrest of 14 suspects linked to the possession and distribution of illegal drugs in Akyem Oda and Akroso.

The operation, which comes after weeks of intelligence gathering and covert surveillance, targeted individuals and businesses believed to be operating outside legal pharmaceutical and narcotics regulations.

Licensed Chemical Shops Shut Down

As part of the raid, three licensed chemical stores were shut down after they were discovered to be selling unregistered and controlled substances without authorization. The stores were also found with significant quantities of suspicious pharmaceutical products, including red drugs, cannabis, and other unclassified narcotics.

Seized Items and Charges

Authorities seized large quantities of illegal drugs, along with documents believed to be linked to the procurement and distribution network. The suspects, whose identities have not been publicly disclosed, are currently in custody and assisting in investigations.

NACOC says they will be processed for possession, trafficking, and sale of illegal substances, in violation of Ghana’s Narcotics Control Act.

NACOC Issues Public Warning

In a statement following the operation, NACOC assured Ghanaians that it remains committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks and safeguarding public health and safety.

“We urge all residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious drug-related activity in their communities. The fight against narcotics is a collective responsibility,” the statement emphasized.

The Commission also cautioned licensed chemical sellers to operate strictly within the bounds of their permits and warned that violators will be sanctioned or prosecuted.

The Eastern Region has recently seen increased surveillance and enforcement by anti-drug authorities, as concerns rise over growing drug-related activities, particularly among the youth.
