Accra, June 25, 2025 — The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has approved a 2.45% increase in electricity tariffs, effective July 1, 2025, as part of its Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism. However, water tariffs will remain unchanged across all categories for the third quarter of the year.
The adjustment, announced on Tuesday, is driven by key macroeconomic indicators such as inflation (20.67%), exchange rate volatility (GHS10.3052 to USD), fuel prices, and power generation costs.
Electricity Tariff Adjustments
- Lifeline consumers (those using up to 30 kWh) will now pay 79.5308 Ghana pesewas per kilowatt-hour (GHp/kWh), up from 77.6274 GHp/kWh.
- Industrial and mining consumers will also experience price increases. High-voltage mining users, for instance, will now pay 508.0854 GHp/kWh, rising from 495.9255 GHp/kWh.
- Other residential, non-residential, and special load categories will see similar marginal adjustments.
Water Tariffs Held Constant
Water consumers, including residential, commercial, and industrial users, will not face any tariff increases during this period. PURC noted that current water rates will remain in effect through the third quarter.
Regulatory Assurance
The Commission, in its statement, reaffirmed its commitment to balancing utility provider sustainability with consumer affordability. It emphasized that while operational costs must be recovered to ensure consistent power supply, affordability and transparency remain at the heart of its pricing decisions.
“We appreciate the cooperation of all stakeholders and assure the public of our continuous commitment to delivering value for money through improved service delivery,” PURC said.
Consumers are encouraged to stay informed through official PURC communication channels and report any billing discrepancies or service concerns to the Commission.
