Madina, June 17, 2025 — The Madina District Court has adjourned the high-profile murder case of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale to August 2, after the prosecution announced it is still waiting for legal guidance from the Attorney-General’s Department.
Daniel Owusu Koranteng, himself an investigative journalist, has been charged with abetment of crime and murder in connection with Suale’s shocking assassination in January 2019. He has pleaded not guilty and is currently on a GHC50,000 bail.
Appearing before Presiding Judge Susan Nyarkotey, Chief Inspector Nana Afua Bamfoa Bamfo informed the court that the Attorney-General is yet to respond to the prosecution’s request for advice after receiving the case docket.
The judge ordered the prosecution to ensure the Attorney-General’s report is ready and the Bill of Indictment is filed at the next sitting.
Background to the Case
The case traces back to June 2018, when former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong publicly displayed photographs of Ahmed Suale on Net2 TV, accusing him of misconduct and calling for punitive action.
Investigators allege that Daniel Owusu Koranteng was the individual who provided those images to Agyapong, an act which may have directly compromised Suale’s safety.
According to the prosecution, Suale confronted Koranteng via WhatsApp after realising he had leaked the photos.
Tragically, on January 16, 2019, shortly after the televised exposure, Ahmed Suale was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Madina.
“Investigation disclosed that the accused person, having known the deceased’s place of abode and possible hideouts, led two other culprits currently at large to the house of the deceased where he was shot and killed,” the prosecution stated.
The case has since garnered global attention, with calls for justice from press freedom organisations, civil society groups, and international watchdogs, who have long demanded accountability for the killing of the prominent Tiger Eye PI journalist.
The adjournment to August 2 marks another delay in a case already marred by years of investigative stagnation and public frustration.
