Ashanti Region: Deadly Shooting in Denase Leaves Two Dead, Three Injured Amid Rising Insecurity

Denase, Ashanti Region – A tragic shooting incident on Thursday night has plunged the community of Denase in the Afigya Kwabre North District into mourning and fear after two people were killed and three others injured in what some eyewitnesses have described as a targeted attack.

According to reports from residents and community leaders, the violent incident unfolded after several rounds of gunfire—reportedly up to 14 shots—were heard, throwing the area into chaos and panic.

The injured victims were quickly rushed to the Offinso Saint Patrick Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

While police investigations are ongoing, Kwabena Asamoah, the Unit Committee Chairman for the Denase Electoral Area, told reporters that the nature of the attack suggests it was not a robbery but rather a deliberate assault on specific individuals traveling in a vehicle.

“This wasn’t a random robbery. It looked like a planned hit. The gunmen knew exactly who they were after,” he said, adding that the intensity of the attack and the number of bullets fired points to a highly orchestrated operation.

This is not the first time such a violent incident has been reported in the Denase area, raising questions about long-standing security lapses and police presence in the community.

Rising Tensions in Asawase After Another Fatal Shooting

Meanwhile, tension is mounting in Asawase, another community in the Ashanti Region, following the fatal shooting of an unidentified man by unknown gunmen on a motorbike—just days after the assassination of the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region, Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe, in a similar manner.

The latest victim was shot multiple times by two assailants on a motorbike, who fled the scene immediately after the attack.

These back-to-back killings have sparked widespread concern over the growing trend of targeted killings involving motorbikes, which many residents believe are becoming a preferred method for contract assassinations in the region.

Security experts and local leaders are now calling on the government and police hierarchy to scale up investigations, increase police patrols, and implement urgent interventions to protect residents and restore confidence in law enforcement.

Residents across affected communities continue to live in fear as they await clear action and accountability from the authorities.
