‘Big Push’ Roads to Be Built 24/7 – Roads Minister Agbodza Announces

Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that all road contracts under the government’s flagship ‘Big Push’ infrastructure programme will be constructed on a 24-hour schedule to fast-track completion and minimise public inconvenience.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at the Jubilee House in Accra on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Mr. Agbodza said the round-the-clock construction model will apply to critical national highways and key urban corridors, especially those considered essential to economic activity and social development.

“Every contractor working under the ‘Big Push’ programme will be expected to operate in three shifts,” the Minister disclosed.
“We are not going to allow road construction to drag unnecessarily. These are critical roads needed to open up the economy and improve connectivity.”

The three-shift approach is expected to accelerate delivery timelines for dozens of ongoing and upcoming road projects across the country.

Mr. Agbodza further assured the public that quality assurance would not be sacrificed in the name of speed.
He explained that the Ministry has implemented strict monitoring mechanisms to ensure that contractors deliver high-quality results within deadlines.

“We’ll monitor progress closely to ensure that quality is not compromised despite the speed of delivery. Ghanaians deserve value for money, and we are determined to give them exactly that.”

The ‘Big Push’ infrastructure programme is a central pillar of the current administration’s 24-hour economy policy and seeks to deliver transformational public works in roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, and energy infrastructure across all regions of Ghana.
