Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng, former Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), was reportedly stopped from boarding an international flight at Kotoka International Airport on the night of Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Mr. Koranteng, who is under investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), was intercepted by immigration officers after he allegedly attempted to leave the country without obtaining prior clearance from the OSP, in violation of the conditions tied to his ongoing probe.
Sources indicate that Koranteng had been placed on a travel watch list—commonly known as a stop list—due to the gravity of the allegations under investigation. His attempt to board the flight triggered an automatic alert, prompting swift action by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
The GIS subsequently notified the OSP, and Mr. Koranteng was taken into custody for further action. While the OSP has not officially disclosed the details of the investigation, Koranteng is known to be on enquiry bail, a condition typically applied in serious corruption-related investigations.
This development stems from a February 2025 announcement by the OSP, which named Edward Koranteng, former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, and Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, head of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), as persons wanted in connection with an expansive probe into alleged financial misconduct and corruption.
The latest incident underscores the OSP’s intention to tighten enforcement mechanisms around high-profile corruption cases and prevent potential suspects from evading justice through international travel.
As of now, no formal charges have been announced, and it remains unclear when Mr. Koranteng will be brought before a court. The OSP is expected to release a statement in the coming days regarding the next steps in the investigation.
