The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has ordered the immediate suspension of production of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix by Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, following serious health and safety breaches uncovered at the company’s facility.
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 3, the FDA confirmed that the move came after multiple consumer complaints prompted a thorough inspection of the company’s manufacturing processes. The Authority had earlier issued a directive for the recall of all canned Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix products, including specific batches in 380g and 1.05kg pouches.
The FDA’s investigation revealed:
- Poor maintenance of critical manufacturing equipment
- Inadequate monitoring systems to ensure product safety and quality
“Production will remain suspended until Nutrifoods Ghana Limited rectifies all violations and fully complies with the FDA’s safety and quality standards,” the statement said.
The regulatory body assured the public that it will continue rigorous monitoring to ensure compliance and protect consumer health.
The suspension of one of Ghana’s most widely used tomato mix brands has raised concerns among consumers and retailers, with the FDA urging the public to return affected products and stay alert to updates.
