Authorities at Kinbu Senior High Technical School in Accra have intensified security checks at the school’s entrance following the tragic death of a first-year student, Addib Alhassan, who was allegedly stabbed by a fellow student on July 31, 2025.
The searches, which began shortly after the incident, are aimed at retrieving unauthorised items such as knives and mobile phones. School staff have also been instructed to deny entry to students found wearing unprescribed attire or sporting bushy hair, as part of efforts to reinforce discipline and ensure safety.
The incident, which reportedly stemmed from a heated classroom dispute, has sparked widespread shock and grief within the community. Addib, aged 15, was fatally stabbed during the altercation, according to initial reports.
In response, the Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, issued a strong statement on August 1, condemning the violence and calling the act both “tragic and senseless.”
“This should never happen within our schools. A place of learning must also be a place of safety,” she stressed.
The school is said to be cooperating fully with authorities in the ongoing investigation, while counselling services have been made available to affected students.
The tragic event has reignited national conversations about student discipline, school security, and the mental well-being of Ghanaian youth, with many calling for more proactive measures to prevent future occurrences.
