Mahama Launches Health Task Force and ‘SUSTAIN Initiative’ at Africa Health Sovereignty Summit

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the establishment of a Presidential Task Force on Global Health Governance aimed at engaging global and continental partners in a bold redesign of Ghana’s health system and broader African health architecture.
The announcement came during the Africa Health Sovereignty Summit held in Accra on Tuesday, August 5, where the President outlined key reforms that prioritize African ownership, equity, and sustainable investment in health.

- Presidential Task Force on Global Health Governance
President Mahama described the Task Force as a high-level convening platform to reimagine global health systems “for the world we live in now, not the world of yesterday.” The body will serve as a catalyst for structural reform and deeper collaboration between African states and global health actors. - The SUSTAIN Initiative (Scaling Up Sovereign Transition and Institutional Networks)
The President also launched the SUSTAIN Initiative, an ambitious African-led platform designed to:- Align national budgets with health priorities
- Mobilise sovereign, diaspora, and philanthropic capital
- Encourage cross-border learning, innovation, and accountability

President Mahama extended an open invitation to all African nations and development partners to join Ghana in building a health investment ecosystem that is:
