Adansi Akrofuom, August 8, 2025 – Officers of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and aviation experts are intensifying efforts in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve to locate and retrieve all parts of the Z-9 military helicopter that tragically crashed on Wednesday, killing eight people, including two cabinet ministers.
The helicopter, en route from Accra to Obuasi on an anti-illegal mining mission, went down near the Adansi town of Brofoyeduru, causing national shock and grief.
In a televised address, President John Mahama confirmed the recovery of the helicopter’s “Black Box” — a flight recorder expected to aid investigators in uncovering the cause of the fatal incident.
However, the ongoing investigation has led to unintended hardship for local farmers, who say their access to food has been cut off as security operations have cordoned off several farmlands.
“Now we buy food from the street shops. Rice, gari, among others, are what we buy. If they allow us into the farms, we will be able to harvest our foodstuff,” one resident lamented.
The Member of Parliament for Akrofrom, Joseph Azumah, urged continued cooperation from the community. He also revealed that a resident turned in a watch found at the crash site — a gesture he praised.
“We are happy that one of them brought a watch… we have handed it over to the leader of the team who is currently here,” Azumah stated.
