A Volta River Aviation helicopter made an emergency landing on Monday morning at Nkawkaw, near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The aircraft — a Jet A-1 with registration number 9G-AFW — was en route from Accra to Kumasi when poor visibility caused by harsh weather conditions forced the pilot to land. All crew members, including the pilot, were reported safe.
The incident follows another emergency landing just days earlier at the Presby School Park in Ajumako Kokoben, Central Region. That aircraft, registered as 9G-ADW, was carrying four passengers when it encountered poor visibility and turbulent winds mid-flight. The pilot made a precautionary landing in a school compound, drawing large crowds from the surrounding community. The helicopter remained grounded for about an hour before resuming its journey.
In a separate and more tragic development, a military helicopter crashed on Wednesday, August 6, in Adansi Akrofoum in the Ashanti Region, killing eight people. Among the dead were Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Murtalla Mohammed, three government officials, and three crew members.
