IGP Promotes Two Police Officers for Heroic Role in Foiling Robbery

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted two officers for their exceptional service in an operation that saved robbery victims and led to the arrest of seven suspects.

According to a police statement, the officers showed “diligence, dedication to duty, and vigilance” during a snap check at Ablekuma Borkorborkor in the Greater Accra Region. Working alongside four Community Police Assistants (CPAs), they successfully rescued victims and apprehended the suspects.

The officers — Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka and L/Constable Joseph Akondoh, both from the Anyah District Police Command — were honoured by the IGP and the Police Management Board (POMAB) at the Police Headquarters on Friday, August 8, 2025. The four CPAs also received recognition for their role in the operation.

As part of the honours, Constable Akondoh was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal, while Chief Inspector Kotoka was recommended for the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy, which could see her commissioned into the Senior Officer Corps after successful completion.

The incident occurred on Thursday, August 7, 2025, around 12:30 a.m., when the officers stopped a green pickup truck during routine checks. Two passengers leapt from the vehicle, crying for help, and reported they had been attacked the night before during a robbery involving their 5,400-litre fuel tanker near Nsawam.

The officers acted swiftly, rescuing the victims and arresting one suspect on the spot, while others fled. Follow-up operations in the Eastern Region led to six more arrests and the recovery of the stolen fuel tanker and other exhibits.

The IGP praised the officers and CPAs for their professionalism and commitment, encouraging all personnel to emulate their example. He also reaffirmed the Police Administration’s commitment to rewarding outstanding service.
