The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended the operating licence of Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited in Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi for breaching broadcasting regulations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the NCA said the suspension followed the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama for defaulting stations to correct violations of Ghana’s FM broadcasting laws and regulations.
While many stations took steps to address breaches during the amnesty period, the regulator noted that Wontumi Multimedia failed to rectify certain infractions. These included the unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and the operation of unapproved transmitter locations.
As a result, the NCA has suspended the following stations:
- 95.9 FM in Accra
- 101.3 FM in Kumasi
- 101.3 FM in Takoradi
According to the Authority, the stations were operating without a Certificate of Compliance, contrary to Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991).
The NCA reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the broadcasting space to ensure adherence to authorisation conditions and compliance with the laws governing broadcasting in Ghana.
