Defence Ministry Vows Transparency in Helicopter Crash Probe

Deputy Minister for Defence, Brogya Genfi, has assured that investigations into the recent helicopter crash will be fully transparent, with no details concealed from the public.
Speaking during a visit by the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to the Ministry on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Mr. Genfi said the Ministry had requested international collaboration in the probe and received positive feedback from partners.
“We want to assure you that nothing will be covered. It will be transparent, and the public will know exactly what happened in the course of this tragic accident,” he stated.
The crash claimed eight lives, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah. The Deputy Minister urged the public to trust the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ministry to conduct a diligent investigation and warned the media and commentators against spreading misinformation.
A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, for Dr. Boamah and Squadron Leader Peter Anala at Christ the King Church, Accra, at 6pm.
President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, King Professor Odaifio Welentsi III, called on the government and successive administrations to ensure the welfare of the children of the deceased, describing them as gallant men who must not be forgotten.
He further urged that their sacrifice should mark a decisive moment in the fight against illegal mining (galamsey), which he believes was linked to the incident.
“If we cannot do something about this once and for all, then these gallant men have died for nothing,” he stressed.
