Opinion: Mid-Year Budget Review Signals Prudence and Progress – Nash Odoi

The 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review presented by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has drawn attention for its measured yet impactful policy direction, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development and public sector reform.

One of the most commendable commitments is the government’s decision to continue investing in road infrastructure. The pledge to complete major projects—such as interchanges, bridges, and feeder roads—goes beyond physical development. These projects are critical for stimulating local economies while addressing long-standing deficits that have limited access to healthcare, education, and markets, particularly in rural communities. In maintaining this priority despite tight fiscal space, the government demonstrates its resolve to deliver tangible benefits to citizens.

Equally significant is the reduction in ministerial and presidential staff appointments. At a time when public trust and fiscal discipline are paramount, this decision signals leadership by example. It reflects a willingness to streamline operations, cut down wasteful expenditure, and enhance efficiency within governance structures—aligning with citizens’ calls for a leaner, more accountable public sector.

Together, these measures present the image of a government that is listening, adapting, and acting decisively. As Ghana navigates its path to economic recovery, such targeted and responsible actions will be key in rebuilding confidence and fostering sustainable development.

The government deserves recognition for these forward-looking initiatives and must be encouraged to sustain this trajectory of prudence and progress.
