NDPC Commissioner Hails Adidome Health Kiosk Project As A Model For Community Development

Commissioner and Volta Region Representative to the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, has applauded traditional leaders who take proactive steps in community development, stressing that such initiatives can ignite sustainable transformation.

He made the remarks on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Adidome in the Volta Region, where he chaired and served as Special Guest at the commissioning of the “Health Kiosk” Project. The facility is designed to provide regular vital checks for residents, aiding in the early detection of conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.

Dr. Apetorgbor commended Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, Chief of Adidome and Executive Director of the Wellness Bridge Initiative (WBI), for his bold and life-saving vision. He described the project as “a true example of visionary leadership” and emphasized that the Health Kiosk initiative aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s people-centred health policy, which prioritises preventive care, community-based health delivery, and early detection to reduce avoidable illnesses and deaths.

“Health and development are inseparable. A healthy people form the bedrock of a productive economy. By ensuring early detection of hypertension, diabetes and other silent conditions, this initiative places the well-being of the community at the centre of our development efforts,” he said.

The NDPC Commissioner further appealed to development partners, philanthropists, and traditional authorities to support similar interventions across the Volta Region and beyond. “Let us light these small fires in our communities – for when each of our stools rises in unity and purpose, the whole region shall glow with development,” he urged.

The Health Kiosk initiative, a flagship project of the Wellness Bridge Initiative, seeks to deliver preventive health services directly to the people — including market vendors, hawkers, okada riders, pedestrians, and the wider community.

The WBI project operates under four strategic pillars: Awareness through education, Checking health status via screenings, promoting proper Nutrition, and encouraging Physical Exercise. A key feature is the establishment of age-specific fitness clubs under the campaign “Age is a Number.”

The commissioning ceremony was attended by the District Chief Executive of Central Tongu, the District Health Director, traditional leaders, community members, and representatives of partner organisations. The event also featured a free community health screening exercise.
