LPG Leader Kofi Akpaloo Released After Eight Days in Custody

Leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has been released from custody eight days after his arrest over alleged financial crimes.

Akpaloo was arrested on September 3, 2025, facing accusations of fraud, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, and money laundering.

He was earlier granted police bail of GH¢10 million with two sureties to be justified, but remained in custody until Thursday, September 11, 2025, after struggling to meet the bail conditions.

Speaking to journalists after his release, Akpaloo insisted his detention was politically motivated.

“They [EOCO] say they are conducting investigations, but this is politics as usual. My arrest and detention were a result of my recent criticisms of the government,” he alleged.
