Four Dead, 12 Injured in Fatal Crash on Cape Coast–Accra Highway

A tragic accident at Wakrom Junction near Yamoransa on the Cape Coast–Accra Highway has left four people dead and 12 others injured on Monday, September 15, 2025.

The crash occurred around 2:45 p.m. when a DAF truck (registration AW 9548-13) loaded with 700 bags of rice collided with a Toyota Hiace passenger vehicle (registration GC 9728-21).

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Central Regional Rescue Team, which arrived at 2:59 p.m., extricated five victims from the wreckage. Four of them were later pronounced dead at the hospital, while one critically injured passenger is receiving treatment.

Earlier, nine passengers had been rescued and rushed to the hospital before the GNFS team arrived. In total, 17 people were involved in the accident. The truck driver and his mate reportedly escaped unhurt.

As of late Monday, rescue efforts were still underway to free one person trapped in the mangled vehicle. The accident also caused heavy traffic on the busy highway as emergency workers toiled to clear the scene.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution when using the stretch, which has seen frequent accidents in recent years.
