The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has commenced its much-publicised “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna” protest in Accra, with hundreds of party supporters taking to the streets to register their displeasure over what they describe as harassment and injustice against members of the opposition.

The march began at the Obra Spot at Kwame Nkrumah Circle and is heading toward the Ghana Police Service headquarters, where party leaders are expected to present a petition to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
According to the party’s leadership, the protest is intended to draw attention to what they allege is a growing pattern of politically motivated arrests and investigations, which they argue undermine the rights and freedoms of their members.
The NPP further accuses the current police leadership of acting under government influence to intimidate political opponents, a situation they say must be urgently addressed to protect Ghana’s democracy.
Security forces have been deployed along the protest route to ensure calm and prevent disturbances as the demonstration makes its way through key parts of the capital.
