GES Releases 2025 Harmonised Prospectus for SHSs and Technical Institutions

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the 2025 harmonised prospectus for all Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Technical Institutions nationwide.

Dubbed the National Prospectus, the new guidelines provide a uniform set of requirements for all first-year students, eliminating the disparities that previously existed among schools.

According to the GES, schools are strictly prohibited from requesting any additional items outside what has been officially approved.

Relief for Parents

The move is expected to ease the burden on parents, enabling them to prepare early for their children’s enrollment without waiting for the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) to be rolled out.

Prospectus Categories

The harmonised prospectus is divided into three categories:

  • Category A (Basic Items – 27 total): Includes a trunk or hard-body suitcase, chop box or plastic container, toiletries, beddings, a pair of school-specific footwear, underwear, cutlery, mathematical set, and scientific calculator.
  • Category B (Cleaning Supplies – 3 Sub-groups):
    • Group One: Hard hand gloves, five litres of liquid soap, and one kilogramme of washing powder.
    • Group Two: Small-sized bleach, dustpan, long-handled broom, and scrubbing brush.
    • Group Three: Standing mop with mop bucket, duster, and short local broom.
  • Day Students: Must have a mathematical set, scientific calculator, decent school-specific sandals (without embellishments), black or white sneakers, and a school bag. The same cleaning supplies under Category B apply.

Goal of the Policy

The GES stressed that the harmonised prospectus is designed to:

  • Reduce disparities across schools,
  • Ensure fairness for all students, and
  • Ease financial and logistical stress on parents.
