Haruna Iddrisu Emerges as Frontrunner in NDC 2028 Flagbearer Poll

A new poll by Global InfoAnalytics has positioned Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu, as the leading contender to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2028 general elections.
According to the survey, Haruna commands 30% support, placing him ahead of NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia (24%) and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson (18%).
Other figures tested include:
- Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff – 10%
- Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu – 8%
- Eric Opoku, Joshua Alabi, Armah-Kofi Buah, Kwame Awuah-Darko – 2% each
- Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah – 1%
- Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije – negligible support

Alternative Scenarios Tested
- Three-Way Race Without Ato Forson: Haruna’s lead expands to 45%, ahead of Asiedu Nketia (37%) and Julius Debrah (18%). Among NDC supporters, his approval climbs to 47%, with strong backing in swing regions (48%).
- Race Without Haruna Iddrisu: Asiedu Nketia tops the poll with 40%, followed closely by Ato Forson on 38%, while Debrah garners 22%. Among core NDC voters, the contest becomes a dead heat, with Asiedu at 42% and Forson at 41%.
- Swing Region Dynamics: Forson performs best in swing regions, securing 47% support compared to Asiedu’s 38%, underscoring his appeal beyond the party base.
Implications
The findings indicate that Haruna Iddrisu is the clear early favourite. However, should he opt out of the race, the contest could shift into a tight two-horse battle between Asiedu Nketia and Ato Forson, potentially reshaping the NDC’s leadership succession ahead of 2028.
