Kennedy Agyapong’s Team Demands Disciplinary Action Against Wontumi and Abronye Over “Reckless” Comments

The campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, has called for disciplinary measures against Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi), and Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), following controversial remarks on the party’s upcoming presidential primaries.
The party had earlier distanced itself from the comments, clarifying that they did not reflect its official position. Wontumi was reported to have claimed that the decision to hold the primaries on January 31, 2026, was intended to favour a particular aspirant, while Abronye allegedly stated that he controls the Bono Regional album and could block certain individuals from voting.
In a subsequent clarification, Wontumi said his comments were based on feedback from grassroots supporters and were aimed at discussing strategies for the NPP’s electoral comeback.
However, speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, September 28, Kwasi Kwarteng, spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, strongly condemned the remarks, describing them as “reckless,” “divisive,” and unconstitutional.
“We’re calling for a disciplinary process… until the party takes decisive action, this will weaken the party and dent its image. Distancing alone is not enough. These comments undermine unity, violate the party’s constitution, and cast doubt on the credibility of the primaries,” Kwarteng stressed.
He further urged the NPP leadership to publicly summon both chairmen before the party’s disciplinary committee, warning that failure to act decisively could erode internal cohesion and public trust ahead of the 2026 primaries.
