Samuel George to Address Press on Monday Over DStv Subscription Fee Standoff

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel George, is expected to brief the press on Monday, September 29, 2025, on the ongoing standoff with MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv, regarding the reduction of subscription fees.
This comes after the Minister directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to establish a stakeholder committee to evaluate DStv pricing in Ghana. The committee, which began work on September 8, 2025, is set to present its findings and recommendations on the same day.
The committee’s mandate included:
- Developing a shared understanding of DStv pricing in Ghana.
- Proposing commercially viable and mutually acceptable measures to address public concerns over subscription costs.
- Designing a roadmap to curb cross-border piracy, particularly the influx of DStv decoders and services from Nigeria into Ghana.
At the upcoming briefing, Samuel George is expected to present the committee’s recommendations, which will outline potential adjustments to DStv’s pricing model and mechanisms to address piracy challenges.
The engagement aims to clarify and possibly resolve the standoff, which has seen the Minister warn of possible suspension of DStv operations in Ghana if the company fails to comply, while MultiChoice Ghana has pushed back against directives to reduce subscription fees.
