The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has revealed that DStv has deactivated nearly one million decoders in a sweeping effort to curb cross-border piracy between Nigeria and Ghana.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, September 29, 2025, the Minister said the move was aimed at dealing with the growing problem of unauthorised “ghost boxes” flooding the Ghanaian market.
“So far, DStv has deactivated close to a million ghost boxes over a period of time,” Mr. George disclosed.
The Minister also highlighted MultiChoice Africa’s new value offer, which gives Ghanaian subscribers between 33% and 50% more value on their packages, describing it as “unprecedented” and rejecting claims that such incentives had been introduced in the past.
“I have heard people say that DStv has done this before; that is not correct. That is why the presser I did, I said this is unprecedented in DStv’s own marketing modules,” he stressed.
Mr. George added that the initiative was a major concession tailored specifically for the Ghanaian market, noting that it was part of a broader set of reforms aimed at ensuring fairness, transparency, and better value for satellite television subscribers.
