EC Announces Nationwide By-Elections for November 11

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced that it will conduct by-elections in several Electoral Areas and Unit Committees across the country on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

The exercise follows vacancies created by the resignation or death of Assembly and Unit Committee Members, in line with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended by Act 940.

Nomination Process

In a statement signed by the EC Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa, the Commission stated that nominations open on Monday, October 6, and close on Thursday, October 16, 2025.

Nomination forms will be available free of charge at all District EC Offices or can be downloaded from the Commission’s official website at www.ec.gov.gh/forms.

Completed forms must be submitted between Monday, October 13, and Thursday, October 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Each submission must include four copies of the nomination form and two recent passport-sized photographs with a red background.

For Electoral Area elections, nomination forms must be endorsed by a proposer, a seconder, and eighteen registered voters living within the constituency. For Unit Committee elections, candidates must have endorsements from a proposer, a seconder, and eight other registered voters in their locality.

All forms must be personally submitted by the candidate or their proposers and seconders to the Returning Officer of their Electoral Area.
