GTEC Demands Proof of Doctorate from Former Internal Audit Agency Boss Eric Oduro Osae

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has formally written to Eric Oduro Osae, the former Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency, requesting documentary proof to justify his use of the academic title “Dr.”
In an official letter dated October 8, 2025, and signed by Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, Director-General of GTEC, the Commission asked Dr. Osae to submit evidence of a terminal academic degree — such as a PhD or EdD — from a recognised and accredited university in Ghana or abroad.
The directive followed an earlier engagement between Dr. Osae and GTEC officials concerning his continued public use of the title.
“For the avoidance of doubt, please be reminded that GTEC regards the unauthorized or inappropriate use of academic titles as a serious matter,” the letter stated. “The use of titles such as ‘Dr.’ without formal academic validation from an accredited institution is considered misleading and in violation of established academic protocols and standards.”
The Commission instructed Dr. Osae to provide the name of the awarding institution, a copy of his degree certificate, and his official academic transcript.
GTEC further stated that if he fails to provide the required documents, he must immediately cease using the title “Dr.” and withdraw it from all official and public communications, including institutional profiles, websites, letterheads, and other professional materials.
Dr. Osae has until October 17, 2025, to comply by submitting the necessary evidence or formally confirming the withdrawal of the title.
“The Commission expects your full cooperation in this matter. Kindly ensure that all requested documentation or confirmation of title withdrawal is submitted on or before October 17, 2025,” the letter concluded.
In recent months, GTEC has intensified efforts to enforce academic integrity and compliance across Ghana’s tertiary and professional institutions. The Commission has repeatedly cautioned that the misuse of academic or honorary titles not only misleads the public but also undermines the credibility of Ghana’s higher education system.
