GTEC Withdraws Accreditation for UCC’s Customs Administration Postgraduate Programmes

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has withdrawn the accreditation of two postgraduate programmes offered by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) — the MSc Customs Administration and the M.Phil. Customs Administration — with immediate effect.

In a letter dated October 6, 2025, and signed by GTEC’s Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, the Commission explained that the decision was taken after UCC altered the approved mode of delivery for the programmes without prior authorisation.

According to GTEC, both programmes were originally accredited to be conducted in regular, in-person mode. However, the University had begun offering them as sandwich and fully online courses, in violation of accreditation terms.

“The decision is informed by the fact that, as you are aware, accreditation for these programmes was granted to be taught in regular and in-person mode. However, the University of Cape Coast, without recourse to GTEC, has commenced delivering these programmes as sandwich and 100% online,” the letter stated.

The Commission emphasised that UCC could reapply for accreditation if it intends to continue offering the programmes in alternative formats.

GTEC also copied the Commissioner of Customs at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), cautioning that any certificates issued under the de-accredited programmes will not be recognised.

Furthermore, the University has been directed to withdraw all admissions granted under the affected programmes and to submit proof of compliance to the Commission by October 31, 2025.
