And at the heart of this momentous event stands a Ghanaian woman, Akosua Dentaa Amoateng MBE, founder of the GUBA Awards (Grow, Unite, Build Africa) — joined in history and honour by none other than His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, who led a royal delegation to grace the occasion.
Together, they carried Ghana’s spirit across the ocean, blending royalty, culture, and global connection in a powerful show of unity.

Hosting the 2025 GUBA Awards in Barbados is far more than a change of venue; it’s a reversal of history.

The participation of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, King of the Asante Kingdom, brought unmatched gravitas to the event.

In his address, the Asantehene praised initiatives like GUBA for “turning cultural heritage into a force for global unity and empowerment.”

Dentaa’s Vision: Culture as Connection
Since founding GUBA in 2009, Dentaa Amoateng has transformed what began as an awards platform into a global diaspora movement.
Her goal: to celebrate and connect Black excellence wherever it exists.
“We are one people separated by water but connected by spirit,” she said.
“GUBA in Barbados is not just a ceremony; it’s a return and a reminder that our strength lies in unity.”
Through her vision, Dentaa has demonstrated that culture, media, and creativity can be powerful tools of diplomacy, building bridges that politics often neglects.
