Learner driver Benjamin Kwarfo, lost control of the vehicle he was driving and tragically ran over a local woman at Assin Fosu in the Central Region on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at around 11:00 a.m.
The mother of four, Gladys Mensah, died when Benjamin Kwarfo lost control of the Hyundai truck, which was being used to teach him how to drive.
The 26 year old driver was teaching his conductor (mate), Eric Ackon, 34, how to drive a Hyundai truck with registration number GR 6146-12, when the vehicle went out of control due to inexperience.
The truck struck Gladys Mensah, who was hawking second-hand clothes and boxer shorts by the roadside near the SDA School at Habitat, a suburb of Assin Fosu.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the truck dragged the victim for several meters before crashing into a nearby house, causing extensive damage to the building.
The 40 year old mother sustained severe head injuries and bled profusely. She was rushed to St. Francis Xavier Hospital but was sadly pronounced dead later that day.
Both driver and his mate have since been detained by the police at Assin Fosu to assist with the investigation and the vehicle impounded.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital morgue.
Residents expressed deep sorrow over the incident and urged authorities to cordon off the partially collapsed structure impacted by the accident, saying it posed a danger to pedestrians.
