MP Alexander Akwasi Acquah has publicly accused the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin of showing partiality in how he conducts parliamentary proceedings.
The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda claims that Bagbin is bias, allegedly running Parliament in a way that favours the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He has called on the Speaker of Parliament to act neutrally and uphold impartiality expected of the position. Such criticisms are part of broader debates around parliamentary conduct and fairness.
The Criticism comes amid heightened political tensions in Parliament following the December 2024 elections that gave the NDC a super-majorit, with some MPs from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) expressing concerns over how parliamentary business is handled.
The Speaker of Parliament is constitutionally expected to be neutral and independent, presiding over debates without favouring any political party.
Such accusations reflect ongoing political friction in Ghana’s legislature as it handles key legislative priorities under the current super-majority.
