Meagan Good and Jonathan Majors traced their ancestral roots to Guinean in West Africa through DNA testing and subsequently received their citizenship in a private ceremony in the capital Conakry.
The citizenship was awarded to the US film stars during a cultural ceremony on January 9, 2026, organized by Guinea’s Ministry of Culture.
The minister and chief of staff to Guinea’s presidency, Djiba Diakité, presented the pair with their passports on behalf of President Mamadi Doumbouya, praising them as worthy children of the soil.
The Americans showed their gratitude and described the citizenship as a significant connection to their African heritage. They mentioned seeing this as a form of homecoming and a way to help bridge their identities as entertainers and members of the African diaspora.
Guinea’s move is part of a broader trend of African countries granting citizenship to members of the African diaspora who can trace ancestral ties, similar to initiatives in Benin and Ghana.
Meagan Good is an American actress known for roles in films like Think Like a Man and TV series roles.
Jonathan Majors is an actor known for Creed III and Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. They married in March 2025 after dating since 2023.
