Host nation Morocco defeated Nigeria after a 0–0 draw through extra time in the AFCON 2025 semi-final, which took took place at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
The ensuring penalty shootout ended 4–2 in Morocco’s favour. Morocco’s goalkeeper Yassine Bounou saved key penalties and Youssef En-Nesyri converted the decisive spot kick to send the Atlas Lions into the final.
Nigeria found it difficult to break through Morocco’s defence during regular play despite their superior form. The Super Eagles are now looking ahead to a third-place playoff.
Senegal also reached the AFCON final by beating Egypt 1–0 in the earlier semi-final, this means that Morocco will face Senegal in the final.
The final is scheduled to take place on Sunday (18 January 2026) in Rabat, with Morocco targeting their first continental title in 50 years.
