Actress Mercy Johnson has withdrawn the defamation case she filed against social media commentator, VeryDarkMan, also known as Eddie Bliss, leading to the content creator’s release from police detention.
The decision to withdraw the defamation case came after intense public pressure on social media, especially from critics who argued that defamation is a civil matter and not a criminal matter.
The prominent social media commentator publicly criticised the arrest and issued an ultimatum, which many say influenced the turnaround.
Eddie Bliss was arrested following a TikTok video posted in December 2025, where he alleged that Mercy Johnson’s husband, Prince Henry Okojie, bought a house for a pregnant mistress and that Mercy Johnson was involved in causing the woman’s miscarriage.
The allegations sparked controversy online, leading to the legal action.
The video and subsequent arrest generated significant public backlash, with many social media users and commentators calling for the TikToker’s release and questioning the use of police in a defamation dispute.
After Mercy Johnson dropped the charges, VeryDarkMan took to social media to thank her and urged others to stop the online harassment of her family.
