President John Mahama has directed the immediate recall of Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed from his position as Ghana’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The recall was announced in a presidential statement issued on 7 February 2026 and takes effect immediately.
Baba Jamal had been serving as Ghana’s High Commissioner in Nigeria when he decided to contest in the National Democratic Congress (NDC)parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
He won the NDC primary, polling more votes than his closest rival, but the contest was marred by allegations of voter inducement and vote-buying.
The Presidency said that while multiple aspirants faced similar allegations, Baba Jamal was the only serving public officer among them, which raised concerns about upholding the standards of conduct expected of public appointees.
Mr Mahama emphasised that the action was taken to preserve the integrity of public office and comply with the Government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs has been instructed to carry out the administrative and diplomatic steps necessary to effect the recall.
