The Gyasehene of Abura Dunkwa in the Central region, Nana Obo Kwefuah VIII, has been destooled by the Odompem Adwenadze Royal Family over allegations of misconduct, including claims that he engaged in a romantic relationship with the community’s fetish priestess.
The decision to remove the chief from office was taken by the royal family after what they described as repeated violations of traditional customs and failure to adhere to the responsibilities expected of a traditional leader within the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese area in the Central Region.
Leading the destoolment process, the Abusuapanyin of the royal family, Kwame Essoun, explained that the removal followed several concerns raised about Nana Obo Kwefuah’s conduct, particularly his alleged intimate relationship with the community’s fetish priestess, an act the family says contradicts established traditional norms.
According to him, beyond the alleged relationship with the priestess, the chief had also failed to perform key traditional rites and rituals expected of him during important festivals and customary gatherings within the community.
“He has for some period now refused to perform the necessary rites and rituals required of him by the family during festivals,” Essoun stated while explaining the reasons behind the decision.
The Abusuapanyin further accused the destooled chief of attempting to alter the title of the family head to his own name, a move the royal family considered an attempt to undermine established authority within the royal lineage.
Essoun also addressed allegations reportedly made by the destooled chief against members of the family, including claims that he had fathered a child with the chief’s former wife.
He challenged Nana Obo Kwefuah to provide evidence to support the allegation.
Another member of the royal family, Aba Appiawa, confirmed that the family had made several attempts over the past five months to summon the chief to appear before them and respond to the accusations leveled against him.
“We the royal family invited him several times, but he didn’t come. I fully support the decision to destool him,” she said.
Following the decision, the royal family has urged the public to no longer recognise Nana Obo Kwefuah VIII as the Gyasehene of Abura Dunkwa.
Efforts to reach Nana Obo Kwefuah VIII for his response to the allegations and the decision taken by the royal family have so far been unsuccessful.
