MP Demands Accountability Over Missing ECG Containers Worth $700 Million

Accra, Ghana – April 3, 2025 – The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has demanded full accountability over the missing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers, which are valued at over $700 million.
National Security’s Role Under Scrutiny
In a post on X, the Assin South MP shared a March 2, 2025, letter from National Security requesting the evacuation of 706 ECG containers. The letter, addressed to the Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), has sparked further controversy over whether these evacuated containers were part of the 1,340 containers previously reported missing.
“Where are the missing ECG containers worth over $700 million? Could these 706 containers evacuated by National Security be part of the missing 1,340 containers?” Rev. Fordjour questioned.
Energy Ministry Under Fire
The MP also criticized the Energy Ministry for failing to disclose National Security’s evacuation of the containers in previous briefings. He described this as a serious communication lapse, raising suspicions over the handling of the issue.
“How come we never heard about this so-called evacuation by National Security in any of the briefings provided by the Energy Minister thus far?” he wrote.
Rev. Fordjour has urged the government to provide clear and coherent answers, demanding that all missing containers be accounted for.
“We need coherent answers. We need all the containers accounted for!” he asserted.
The controversy surrounding the missing ECG containers continues to grow, with increasing calls for transparency and accountability from both the government and security agencies.
