Sekondi-Takoradi, April 7, 2025 – National Security operatives in the Western Region have uncovered large quantities of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) equipment stored at two locations in Kansaworado, a suburb of Sekondi-Takoradi.
The discovery comes as authorities intensify investigations into the mysterious disappearance of over 1,300 ECG containers allegedly missing from the Tema Port. The containers were expected to hold critical electrical equipment meant for nationwide projects.
Details of the Discovery
At the first location, an uncompleted building, security personnel found:
✅ 7 drums of fibre and aluminum cables stashed in the compound.
✅ 100 boxes of single-phase meter enclosures.
✅ Packs of electrical switches and other tools.

Investigations revealed that these materials were released by MBH Power to Hegmic Co. Ltd as part of ECG’s Loss Reduction Program (LRP), a project aimed at minimizing power losses.
📌 Evans Lartey, a supervisor at MBH Power, confirmed the company had official documentation covering the materials.
🗣️ “I have documentation for this. We started this project around August 2023,” he told investigators.
However, when questioned about who supervises the work, Lartey stated:
🗣️ “We have the District Technical Officers, the District Managers, and the Regional Manager of the ECG being aware of this.”
Second Location: Cables Dumped in the Bush
At the second location, an undeveloped land near a private residence, authorities found:
✅ 41 full drums of aluminum cables.
✅ 5 used cables and bundles of angle iron bars dumped in the bush.

Security officials have yet to determine who owns the land or who placed the equipment there.
🔍 Hashem Tanko Nuhu, a senior National Security officer, stated that all seized materials will be confiscated for further investigation.
🗣️ “Our Regional National Security Coordinator will call our head office in Accra for further instructions. We will call ECG to the table. As at now, nobody has owned up to this. We’ve spoken to some residents here, but they seem not to know the actual owners of the items,” he said.
While ECG has a confirmed contract with MBH Power, an insider at the company could not confirm whether the storage of supplies at a private residence was part of standard operational procedures.
Key Questions and Next Steps
🔍 How did the ECG materials end up in private locations instead of designated storage sites?
🔍 Who owns the undeveloped land where the cables were dumped?
🔍 Could this discovery be linked to the missing 1,300 containers at Tema Port?
📌 The ECG, MBH Power, and National Security are expected to hold a joint meeting to clarify the matter.
