Jinapor Urges NPP to Embrace Discipline and Reflection After 2024 Election Defeat

ACCRA, April 17, 2025 — Member of Parliament for Damongo and former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to engage in sober reflection and exercise discipline in the wake of the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Appearing on Channel One TV’s The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Wednesday, April 16, Jinapor described the election outcome as unexpected and emphasized the need for calm, unity, and strategic reorganization within the party.

“It’s not healthy, but to some large extent, unavoidable,” Jinapor noted. “When you lose elections of this nature… it will create some initial temporary problems for people wanting to vent or wanting to express their views.”

While acknowledging that disappointment may prompt emotional reactions, Jinapor urged NPP supporters to focus their energies on rebuilding rather than finger-pointing.

“More importantly, this is the time for sober reflection. All of us must understand that this is the time for sober reflection, introspection, and utmost discipline in the party,” he said.

He continued, “Party members, including myself, must discipline ourselves and ensure that at every point in time, whatever we say or do inures to the upliftment of the image of the party.”

Call for Unity Amid Party Turmoil

The NPP’s loss in the 2024 polls — resulting in the party relinquishing both the presidency and its parliamentary majority — has triggered internal tensions and public debate over the party’s future direction.

Jinapor’s call for restraint comes at a time when various factions within the party have been airing grievances, with some blaming campaign strategy failures, internal disunity, and leadership choices.

Observers say Jinapor’s message of discipline and unity could help stabilize the party as it regroups for future elections and seeks to maintain its relevance in Ghana’s shifting political landscape.
