
The Eastern South Regional Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into a gruesome shooting incident that left five men dead at Asiyaw, near Akwane-Dobro in the Nsawam area, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
According to an official police statement, a crime scene team dispatched to the location discovered the lifeless bodies of five adult males with gunshot wounds. Early findings suggest the incident may be linked to a violent clash between rival groups over illegal sand winning operations in the area.
Several items were recovered from the crime scene, including:
- One Toyota Tacoma vehicle
- One Toyota Tundra vehicle
- One pump action gun with 17 live cartridges
- Four empty cartridges
- Three 7.62/39mm empty shells
- One 9mm empty shell
- Five heavy-duty motorbikes
The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the Police Hospital mortuary in Accra for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the individuals responsible for the fatal shootings and restore calm in the affected community.
Residents have expressed growing fear over escalating violence tied to illegal mining and land disputes, urging authorities to take swift and decisive action to prevent further bloodshed.
