Manso Nkwanta MP Defends Former NSB Boss Adu-Boahene Over Damning Memo

The Member of Parliament for Manso Nkwanta, Tweneboah Fokuo, has come to the defence of embattled former National Signals Bureau (NSB) boss, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, following the release of a controversial memo that has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s political landscape.

The memo, addressed to the National Security Coordinator, detailed Adu-Boahene’s account of how over GH¢8 million was allegedly disbursed to opposition parties ahead of the 2024 general elections for the procurement of logistics and equipment related to collation efforts. He also asserted that the GH¢49 million for which he is under prosecution was expended on covert national security operations.

Furthermore, the former NSB chief alleged that an amount of GH¢5,135,000 was used to purchase luxury vehicles—including a 2024 Nissan Patrol Titanium and a 2022 Land Cruiser GXR—for the special aide of the then President-elect. He also accused Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine of orchestrating a “malicious prosecution” against him.

Reacting to the public backlash during an appearance on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, May 10, MP Tweneboah Fokuo insisted that Adu-Boahene had no option but to speak out. He said the memo was a last-resort effort after failed attempts to privately engage the Attorney General.

“If you read his letter carefully, he started by saying that he had kept all this kind of information from his interrogators, knowing the institution he works for and the implications on the nation as a whole. He kept those to himself,” the MP stated.

“He made every effort to try to reach out to the Attorney General. But he never had the chance, and so he was pushed to the wall. This guy was pushed to the edge,” he added.

Fokuo criticised the political and public reactions that have followed the memo’s release, stating that Adu-Boahene has been unfairly vilified. “When the issue started, people were pushing him, saying all sorts of things against him. Now he goes out as a last resort to put this out, and people are uneasy, saying all comments against him,” he lamented.

The claims contained in Adu-Boahene’s memo have sparked calls for further investigations and heightened scrutiny over the handling of public funds and the transparency of state security operations.
