Three men have been convicted and sentenced by the Swedru Circuit Court in connection with a violent cutlass fight that broke out at the New Station Area of Akyem Oda, an incident that went viral on social media on the 6th May, 2026.
The accused persons, George Okyere, 43, Evans Adayele, 20, and Joseph Nyabaah, 26, were each charged with two counts: fighting with a weapon contrary to Section 203 of Act 29/60, and causing harm contrary to Section 69 of Act 29/60. All three pleaded guilty simpliciter to both counts.
The court sentenced Evans Adayele and Joseph Nyabaah to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour, while George Okyere was ordered to pay a fine of 500 penalty units, equivalent to GH₵6,000. In addition, he signed a 3-year bond of good behaviour, binding him not to repeat such conduct.
None of the accused persons had any prior criminal record, a fact that likely weighed in the court’s consideration during sentencing.
