Mahama’s Seven Supreme Court Nominees Referred to Appointments Committee for Vetting

Accra | May 27, 2025 — The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has officially referred seven nominees to the Supreme Court, appointed by President John Dramani Mahama, to the Appointments Committee for vetting and report, in accordance with Article 144(2) of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.

List of Supreme Court Nominees:

  • Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei
  • Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh
  • Justice Senyo Dzamefe
  • Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo
  • Justice Philip Bright Mensah
  • Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo
  • Justice Hafisata Amaleboba

During parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday, May 27, Speaker Bagbin instructed that the leadership of the Judiciary Committee and the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee collaborate with the Appointments Committee in the vetting process.

The nominations come at a time when the Mahama administration is pursuing major judicial reforms and seeking to strengthen the Supreme Court’s capacity and public trust. The vetting process is expected to examine the nominees’ qualifications, experience, and integrity in line with constitutional requirements.
