Ghana, Eswatini parliaments forge stronger ties through benchmark visit

Parliament of Ghana on Monday, June 23, hosted a high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Eswatini, led by the Speaker of its House of Assembly, Jabulani Mabuza, as part of a benchmarking visit aimed at strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

The delegation was officially received by the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Alban Bagbin, who welcomed the visit as an important step toward fostering mutual growth in democratic governance and legislative efficiency.

“Though our nations differ in size and constitutional evolution, our parliaments bear the same responsibility—to serve the people, ensure transparency, and safeguard national interests,” Speaker Bagbin stated.

The visit forms part of broader efforts to deepen collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two legislatures, with a specific focus on studying the operations of Ghana’s Parliamentary Service Board.
The Eswatini delegation is expected to examine best practices that could support institutional strengthening, legislative reforms, and operational improvements in their own parliamentary processes.

Beyond technical learning, both delegations used the occasion to reaffirm a shared commitment to democratic principles, good governance, and accountability. They also pledged to explore avenues for joint advocacy on continental and global issues affecting Africa.

The benchmarking mission is expected to result in a strengthened partnership between the two legislative bodies and open up opportunities for future cooperation in training, policy development, and parliamentary diplomacy.
